Students – undertake research under the EXAP / EXSP programmes , Some of the reseach projects are
- Statistical Survey on the home conditions of the students of the Municipal schools(2002-2003)
- The movements of the Sensex and Stock Markets with respect to the Shares Equities and Mutual Funds was also analysed (2003 - 2004)
- The effect of Liberalisation and Gobalization in some factors of the Indian scenario – Job Oppurtunities, retail industry, Medical facilities, IT & ITES industry in India, Movie Industry(2007-8)
Staff
The “Laadli” project in collaboration with the NGO Population First. The survey covered 1400 people – 750 parents and 650 students, and the data was analysed and report was presented a survey of college students with respect to their daily intake and diet in the project “Food and Nutrition”. The department helps students of the DCA programme to analyze date collected under various projects
Research Component
- EXAP 2009-2010 Batch: Ms. Sandra Mendes and Ms. Gilda Pereira guided the EXAP students Mitali Akarta and Shobhika Agarwal for the topic “Preferences for Mate selection”. The hypothesis under consideration: Men rate looks while women rate economic security over other factors in the process of selecting a partner.
- • EXAP 2012-2013 Batch: Ms. Sandra Mendes guided the EXAP students Ruchika Radhakrishnan and Aishwarya Pillai for the topic “ Kids living in a digital world: A Healthy choice?” The hypothesis under consideration:
1. Young children spend a lot of time using technology gadgets.
2. This technological dependence affects the time spent by young children in playing outdoor games.
- EXSP 2013-14 Batch : Ms. Sandra Mendes guided the EXSP students for the topic “History , Theory and Application of Origami” done by Misba Girkar and Ayesha Khan
- EXAP 2013-14 Batch: Ms. Sandra Mendes guided the students Aneesha Jose and Riddhima Modi of TYBA along with Ms Gilda Pereira under the EXAP Research component on the topic RIGHTS OF SUNNI MUSLIM WOMEN IN THE AREAS OF MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE IN INDIA
- • Ms Sandra Mendes is involved in the statistical analysis and the report of four research papers, that the SCWSD was commissioned to undertake by the UGC, for the scheme of Human Rights Education during the XI plan period (2007-2012), will be published this year. The research papers are:
a) “Transmission of Knowledge and Values related to Human Rights (with special reference to Women and Girls) through formal and non-formal education”,
b) “Responsible use of water and disposal of garbage”,
c) “A study of anthropometric variables in adolescent girls from a lower socio-economic strata to assess nutritional status”.
d) “Role of NGO’s in promoting harmony and understanding in the community” will be published later.
Student Enrichment Programmes
- Sept. 7, 2012: A talk on ‘Nuclear Energy’ by Dr. Ignat Mendes was attended by the students of the Departments of History, Mathematics and Statistics and Political Science.
- The Talk on Problems faced by College Students - HIV AIDS was given by Dr Ashwini Balerao Gandhi on December 14, 2012 under Ananya. This talk was organized jointly by the Departments of Mathematics, History and Economics.
- The Mathematics and Statistics Department and the Economics Department organized a talk and discussion on ‘HIV AIDS, Migration and Health Issues’ by Ms. Anandi Dantas from the NGO CEHAT
